BANGKOK: BEYOND THE RED LIGHTS

My wife and I have a history of doing things the hard way. This often goes together with our inherent frugality. We traveled to Bangkok on summer vacation from our teaching jobs in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We explored the center city at length. When we were ready to head back to our room, we mistakingly tried to catch a cab near the bus station. After trying to negotiate down the initial price-gouge cab rate and failing, we decided to walk what turned out to be the six miles back to our place. We made a day of it. We passed through neighborhoods you won’t find in any guidebook, ran from dogs, met nice folks, explored alleys that turned into homes, and made these photos along the way.
